Hi! My name is Ricki Lane and I am the founder of Reading Made Easy and the Rapid Reading Success Program. Is your child struggling with reading and falling behind their peers? Have you tried many strategies without any success? Don't worry, we're here to help.
Our Rapid Reading Success Program is backed by the Science of Reading, which means it is based on researched evidence of how children best learn to read.
To give you an idea of how we work with children and to get to know us better, we invite you to book a "Switch-It" session for your child. This fun game integrates eight skills into a quick game that lasts less than 10 minutes. It will give you a glimpse of our teaching approach and how we can help your child succeed in reading.

Dear Ricki,
As you know, Jody has been a reluctant reader all of his life and would groan anytime we suggested he read, or when his teachers gave him a reading assignment. He is now in 6th grade and we were starting to get really concerned. Since working with you he has literally done a 180! This past week he has been reading a hard copy chapter book for school and — drum roll — we practically have to pry it out of his hands at night so he can get to sleep! He can’t stop reading it! My husband and I are I so happy that he is reading on his own—without being asked. For the first time ever!
I want to share an email that we received today from Jody's Literacy teacher. Of course this, I believe, is in large part due to your work with him, and for that we are truly grateful!

Dear Donna and James,
I have some good news to share with you. Today Jody completed his end-of-year reading assessments. I am happy to let you know that he has gained four reading levels! This is outstanding! We expect our students to gain 1 or 2 levels in a school year, so this is quite an accomplishment. He is very proud of his results and I know you will be proud of him, too.
Sincerely,
Ms. Ann, Jody's 6th grade teacher
Here’s how the Reading Made Easy program works...
Your child receives 1:1 coaching and will be realizing dramatic improvement in their word level skills in as little as 10 weeks.
This course is based on the science of how children learn to read. They’ll be able to get up in front of their class and read out loud with confidence. They’ll wow their teacher and classmates...especially those who have laughed at them in the past for reading slowly and making mistakes.
I'm an independent teacher and I will work with your child personally. You do not risk having them placed with a different tutor who does not have the qualifications and experience to teach reading. As in learning any new skill, there are steps that your child needs to take to become a proficient reader. The teacher you choose for your child needs to have the expertise of evidence-based reading.
I have space for only 20 students for my 1:1 coaching program so that I can give each child my best support.
Module 1:
In the first step of the program we meet for our complementary parent-teacher consultation and assessment. The assessment shows your child’s reading grade level and pinpoints the gaps in their reading skills. They are about to start the Reading Simplified accelerated program that moves them forward at a pace that you never thought possible.
Module 2:
Smart Goals Kick-Off
We set time-based goals to close the gaps revealed in the assessment. Your child will always know where they’re going and how they’re going to get there.
Module 3:
I provide your child with the keys to “decoding” words and show them how to start reading words accurately - no more guessing. They'll be experiencing some big ahas.
Module 4:
“7 Minutes To Mastery”
“7 Minutes To Mastery” is one of my my favorite secret sauces for helping kids read fluently. This simple strategy works like magic to get immediate results. It works well because kids are able to keep track of their own reading progress so they always know what level they are at.
I address your child's past struggle with reading because it may have left them with some painful memories and fear of failure: "I'm no good. I'm the dumbest kid in the class. I'm a slow reader. My reading sucks...."
95% of our kids are capable of learning how to read, given the right instruction. This module helps them replace these negative habits of thinking with helpful thoughts. High self-esteem will help them regain the love of school that they had whn they first started school.
Instead of feeling “lesser” than others, their self-confidence will sky-rocket in reading and have a positive effect on other areas of school and life. This accomplishment gives them a boost in many areas of their lives - academic, sports, relationships, and anything they set their mind to accomplish.
Module 7:
Let's Celebrate
It's time to celebrate your child's successes. Let's have a party!
In this module your child becomes aware of the big gains they have made and of the importance of celebrating their successes. They will have some suggestions for how they would like to celebrate. They will also be thinking about where they want to go from here and will make plans for the next steps on their heroic reading journey.
Module 5:
Your child will fall in love with the wide range of incentives that support their reading goals. Kids love the online games and activities that ramp up their learning. The Reading Made Easy program guides them in accessing and using games strategically acccording to their needs. We have included a variety of sites such as Raz-Plus, Starfall, and Wordwall to provide them with the perfect activities for each of the skills they are learning.
Most importantly, our online games and one-on-one lessons give them immediate feedback. Mistakes are valuable in that they can help children learn from them and make immediate corrections to stay on track.
Kids can enjoy reading stories and books at home to their parents and siblings. They soon start to choose their own books that they can read by themselves. These include adventure, mythology, fantasy, nature, mystery, suspense, science, comics, science fiction..and more.
They are on the path to realizing their dream of becoming a proficient reader and advancing from "learning to read" to"reading to learn"
They become unstoppable.
Q: Who is the Reading Made Easy program for?
Reading Made Easy is for children ages 6 to 12 who struggle with reading at their grade level.
Q: Is there homework with this program?
The "7 Minutes to Mastery" challenge takes 7 minutes a day to give your child a big boost in their reading fluency.
Q: Will you provide resources for parents to give their child extra support?
Yes, I provide you with the online resources you want. In addition to helping your child with the "7 Minutes to Mastery" activity, you can also help with any other skills they find the most challenging.
You can also help your child choose books and activities in their Raz-Plus portal at any time.
Q: How long does it usually take a child to learn to read?
Children learn to read at different rates but schools expect them to all learn at about the same pace. Kids can be turned off on reading when they're pushed without getting excellent instruction and support.
A friend tells me that he couldn't read when he started grade two. When his dad, a teacher, saw his first grade two report he was quick to start up one-on-one reading lessons with his son. When I asked him how long it took him to learn to read, he said, "Oh, about 10 days."
Q: What are the advantages of online tutoring?
- The online tutoring industry is growing as parents seek more convenient alternatives to traditional tutoring. Face to face 1:1 contact with your child's tutor is now just one click away. The pandemic has led many parents to take advantage of distance online learning.
- Many parents have mentioned the convenience of not having to travel to and from a tutoring center, sometimes in bad driving conditions, or having a tutor come into their home. Your child can be tutored in their jammies while saving both travel time and the cost of fuel.
- Some kids live in areas where there are no qualified tutors close by and parents would need to drive a long distance to get to a lesson with a teacher who uses science-based methods of readkng.
- You can also keep a tutor you have been working with if one of you moves. One of my students recently moved to a different city. With online tutoring he is able to keep up his reading program with Reading Made Easy.
- Using online resources makes learning fun...they are highly motivating for kids. From the wide range of choices, your child will find the reading activities that they love.

"We were so surprised at how much Mark improved with each lesson. We had not expected him to get such quick results."
One morning my son told me, "I don't want to go to school. I hate school...everyone thinks I'm dumb because I can’t read."
I knew we had to find Mark some help. I began to take him on weekly trips to the library and signed him up for reading with one of the library's volunteers.
Mark enjoyed the trips to the library but his reading did not improve...and it was still a problem getting him to go to school. One afternoon at the library in mid June, I noticed Ricki working with a student. I asked if she was able to take more students. She agreed to meet with Mark every week over the summer. We wanted Mark to be reading at Grade 2 level by the time he started school again in September.
Ricki worked magic with Mark. He began to make good progress. We were so surprised at how much Mark improved with each lesson. We had not expected him to get such quick results.
When September came around and we wondered if it going to be a good year or would there be more fights to get Mark to go to school.
We were in for another big surprise. Mark's grade two teacher phoned in the first week of school to say how happy she was to see the big improvement in his reading. She wanted to know how he had been able to get from beginning of grade one to grade two reading level in just two months. We will never cease to be thankful for Ricki's help. She has transformed our son's life."
